Nationality Issues in Austria
Austria had many nationality groups, the main three groupings were the Germans, the Czechs and the Poles. While the Ruthenes, Slovenes and the Italians were considered to be minorities inside Austria. While the Germans were the majority of the Austrian population in 1910 by 1914 the Czechs were the majority of the population. As each nationality grew, tensions began to rise and each nationality began to form militaries in order to show that they deserve respect from other countries. However, their aim was not to agitate for independence and was to increase each nationalities power and influence.
